What to look for, what it costs, and why all-inclusive matters. From $275/hr with gear and operator included.
NYC has hundreds of production studios. Most are renting you a room and charging separately for everything else — gear, grip, lighting, crew, parking passes. The all-inclusive model is rarer but it's what actually gets you in the door on time and on budget.
Union Square Loft at 873 Broadway charges $350/hr (2hr), $300/hr (4hr), or $275/hr for a full day — all gear included, Carlos operating, 13-foot ceilings, natural light or blackout, Sony FX6 available as an add-on at $150/hr.
All rates include the full room, all lighting, all grip, all support equipment, and Carlos operating. Sony FX6 is an add-on at $150/hr.
Production studio rates in NYC vary widely between basic bare rooms and full-service studios with gear and crew included. Union Square Loft charges $350/hr (2hr), $300/hr (4hr), or $275/hr (full day) — all gear and operator included.
At minimum: professional LED and strobe lighting, an experienced operator who knows how to use it, enough ceiling height for standing shots and overhead rigs, and clean power. USL has 13-foot ceilings, a full professional LED and COB lighting rig, and Carlos operating every session.
For commercial and editorial work: yes. The Sony FX6 with Carlos operating adds $150/hr to any session. It's broadcast-quality, not a prosumer rental. For clients who bring their own camera, the studio is camera-ready without the FX6 add-on.
Yes. 9-foot Broadway-facing windows provide clean directional natural light through most of the day. Full blackout is also possible — controlled interior lighting only. USL is one of the few Flatiron studios with both.
The production studio at USL is available for photo shoots, video production, brand campaigns, social content, editorial work, interview setups, and product shoots. It has been used by networks, agencies, and independent creators for over 30 years.
